The Best Management Practice project is based on the concept that solutions to the many issues may come from “leading farmers”. These leading farmers are fundamentally good managers, market focused and excel in management and many soft skills. They sustain and maximize profitability through securing new and emerging markets, integrating with the value-chain and adapting operations to meet consumer trends. The key question is “What do these top farmers have in common?” We believe they have some “best management practices”.
A cohort of 153 leading farmers from Western Canada completed web based email surveys, and personal interviews to capture the common elements of their success and better understand the strategies and tactics.
